Feedback for AEL's Strategic Planning and Coaching
"I was in a career funk. I felt locked into a career path that I found unfulfilling but I was having trouble making a new start. My discussions with Rob about my MBTI® results and my life goals jump-started the process of doing the deep thinking and strategizing that had been totally lacking in my previous job searches. As a result of working with AEL, I began considering a much broader range of career choices, and I focused on jobs that meshed with my personality strengths rather than on jobs that met someone else's idea of a prestigious career. Most importantly, once I knew what I was looking for, I became focused and I knew how to sell myself. Rob's constant encouragement and feedback throughout the process really got the ball rolling. Four months after taking the MBTI® test, I chose a new job that is a much better fit. It's likely I'll continue to transform my career, but now I know I'm heading in the right direction."
"Taking the MBTI® and the individual counseling sessions that followed did not so much reveal something new, but more served to articulate and validate things I always knew about myself. AEL helped me figure out how my preferences and the demands of being a lawyer interact, and to identify exactly where tensions exist between them and where my personality type can best succeed. It also helped me to be mindful in my dealings with co-workers and clients so that I could best present my ideas. I also took the SpeedReading People® course and used those skills in many situations, including interviewing for a new in-house position and negotiating the terms of employment once I received an offer."
"I was in a career rut. I knew that I needed to change jobs but I was spending so much energy feeling sorry for myself, doubting my professional abilities and wondering where I'd gone wrong that I was stuck. That's when a friend pointed me to AEL. Just taking the step to talk to someone about what I wanted to do and how to make that happen caused an immediate shift in my attitude. I felt proactive, and I became much more positive and hopeful. I found several advantages to having a career coach in my most recent job search, including being accountable to someone, talking to and getting advice from an objective listener, and being forced to think through tough questions I tended to avoid. Most of all, I was able to get on point to figure out, for the first time really, both what I wanted in a job and what I had to offer. As a result, I was able to sell myself more effectively in interviews. It is a lot easier for me to advocate for clients than for myself, and that's where AEL helped me out, both substantively and strategically."
"After taking the MBTI® and having it explained to me, I felt an immediate surge of relief. A burden on my psyche fell away, and what had seemed
really confusing to me - why I was struggling with a couple of co-workers and feeling trapped by my job - now seemed clear. I felt free to be myself,
to bring my own interests, attitudes, and approaches to my work,
because I felt confident (again) that those peculiar characteristics of mine could be real assets.
The guilt and unease I had been feeling about having a different perspective, approach, and manner went out the window,
and was replaced by acceptance - of myself. It hasn't eliminated what are likely fundamental
tensions at work, but it has allowed me to sleep better,
get more work done, and focus again on what I believe will be a bright future. I can even see
value in the approaches of my co-workers, now that I don't feel the need to adhere to and live by them."
Feedback for AEL's Parenting and Type Programs
"The Parenting and Personality workshop given by Carly Toomey was
fantastic! The workshop has enabled me to use the strengths from my own
personality to my advantage in parenting. I feel that I have deeper
understanding of what will energize me and how I can use that energy to
better relate to and address the needs that each of my children might have
in any given situation. There were many "aha" moments for me during the
workshop and, as a result of that morning, I feel much more confident in
recognizing the distinct types and preferences of each of my three
children. And, even more importantly, how their types inter-relate with mine and each others'. I enthusiastically recommend this workshop given by Carly Toomey to any parent!"
"I found this workshop to be incredibly insightful. Being an Introvert parent with two Extravert children, I can see that I need to take those breaks, alone, to recharge. I had carried a small amount of guilt for wanting time by myself, but now see that it's natural to my personality type. Knowing myself more clearly has made parenting more free-flowing. For this I am truly grateful!"
"It was a real treat to spend a morning reflecting on my personality type
and how it influences my parenting style. Carly presented information
very effectively so that we could quickly assess ourselves and others to
think about how to better connect. Not only did I learn a lot about
myself and my family, but also I benefited from the collective wisdom of
the fellow participants. Plus, we all seemed to enjoy sharing stories of
how we relate to our children. An added bonus was receiving the M.O.M.S.
Handbook, which contains surprisingly accurate descriptions of mothering
styles."
